New Composite Deck in Pennsville, NJ
Our homeowner was looking to update and redesign a 20+ year old wood deck. After discussing the many options for decking material, they decided to go with composite. Although composite decking material is quite a bit more expensive than wood, the low-maintenance requirements sold them.
All decks, including composite, require some maintenance. Natural wood decks are the most demanding, requiring annual refinishing, which can mean sanding, removal of last year's finish, and application of a new finish. If you love the look of natural wood and you're ok with the upkeep, it's definitely worth it.
Pressure-treated wood requires refinishing with a clear sealer or stain every other year, just half the maintenance of a natural wood deck.
For composite-material decks, no refinishing is required, but they can become host for mold if they are not cleaned at least every three or four years.
A composite deck may cost more than a wood deck at the outset but possibly less than a wood deck over time, thanks to minimal upkeep.
